Earlier this week we reported that Motorola would be gearing up for an Android 2.1 update for the DROID. Oops! It turns out that it might not be coming that soon after all. And here we were etching notches into the wall as we counted down the days.

Earlier this week Motorola made an announcement stating that it would start to roll out 2.1 to all Droid users. They even went as far as saying that all Droid users will have the update by the end of this week. Looks like someone made a mistake and jumped the gun a bit.

Motorola recently updated what’s going to be included in their 2.1 update. Some of the highlights are listed after the break.

Assuming this latest rumor turns out to be true, that $9.99 price that we mentioned yesterday may not seem so bad after all.

Having USB Host support on Android smartphones has long been a request, especially now we’re seeing more capable handsets with processors that could, feasibly, allow them to work as basic netbook alternatives.  Now there’s one way to add USB Host capabilities to the Motorola DROID, but as with any first-generation hack it’s not exactly pretty.

Seems like it was just yesterday when we told everyone the Droid would be getting Android 2.1 in the next week or two. Now it’s the Cliq’s turn.

As I mentioned yesterday, hopefully Motorola will update all their Android’s to 2.1 soon and it looks as though this is the case. The Devour should get this update as well since it is a MotoBlur device like the Cliq. March is looking like its going to be a big month for Android and Motorola.

Following the official announcement made by Verizon that do indeed intend on introducing this phone soon, phonearena.com is hearing rumors that this phone could be released on February 25th.

When looking back on Motorola’s success (or shall we say, the lack thereof), it is plain to see that they needed to make something happen. Yes, they broke precious ground by giving us the RAZR, but since then, they have very little to show for their work. They have delivered a few thoughtful pieces of technology over the past couple of years, but to be honest, it looked to some like Motorola was taking a back seat to companies that it used to contend quite ferociously with.

Earlier today we told you the Motorola Droid’s update to Android 2.1 was coming very soon and now, thanks to an Official update on Motorola’s Facebook page, we know that very soon = this week!

When the Nexus One was announced, many folks were questioning Google’s game plan and why it would release such an amazing device shortly after the Motorola DROID’s release. If that wasn’t enough to make some DROID owners envious, the Nexus One received a multitouch update last week which allowed pinch-to-zoom gestures within Google Maps, the Android browser and photo gallery.
